Anti-Aging Diet Tricks
Looking for the fountain of youth?? Aren’t we all! Well, the good news is that a more youthful appearance may be just a few bites away…. Here are some easy ways to fight the aging process through your diet:
- Drink at least 64 fluid ounces of water each day. Start the day with 1-2 glasses to re-hydrate after a night’s sleep without water.
- Limit alcohol, especially in the evening hours. Alcohol interrupts sleep patterns and can lead to poor quality sleep, which will prevent skin rejuvenation. Alcohol also constricts blood vessels that provide nourishment for the skin.
- Eat foods high in antioxidants such as bright orange vegetables (squash, sweet potatoes), berries, green leafy vegetables, and pomegranates. Drink a glass or two of green tea for good measure!
- Have at least three servings per week of foods high in omega-3 fatty acids (salmon and other fatty fish, flaxseeds, walnuts, omega-3 eggs).
- Snack on almonds and walnuts…. A small handful will do the trick!
- Avoid trans fats found in many margarines, chips, and commercial baked goods (cookies, crackers, pastries).
- Stick with healthy fats like Olive Oil, Canola Oil, and Peanut Oil for food preparation and limit how much real butter is used.
- Replace beef with lean protein such as chicken, fish, pork tenderloin, nuts, eggs, and beans.
- Limit fruit juice—go for the whole fruit instead so you can get lots of heart-healthy fiber.
**Along with a healthy diet, make sure to minimize sun exposure and use sunscreen of SPF 15 or more, moisturize your skin before applying makeup and before going to bed each night, and quit smoking in order to further fight the aging process!**
